The Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) released its Men's Soccer Preseason Poll today. The Aquinas College men's soccer team checked in at #7 according to the league coaches. Last season the Saints were 5-6 in league play and 6-10-3 overall.
A talented and large group of newcomers will look to help the Saints improve upon their 8th-place finish in 2016. Coach Joe Veal will lean on the veteran presences of Jacob Bedi (SR/Commerce Twnsp, Mich.), Patryk Biel (SR/Grandville, Mich.) and Matt Lazar, while looking at sophomores Franco Cablabrese and Luke Larson (SO/Grand Rapids, Mich.) to improve upon strong rookie campaigns. The battle for the goalkeeper position will be one to watch for the Saints, with a pair of talented freshman battling two returning sophomores for the starting spot vacated by new goalkeepers coach Ty Vande Poel.
The Saints open their season on August 23rd when they host Olivet Nazarene on the AQ Athletic Field. Game time is set for 7:00 pm, and the contest can be watch live on the AQ Sports Network.
Northwestern Ohio was tabbed as the league favorites by the coaches, earning 11 of 12 first-place votes and a total of 143 points. The Saints grabbed 76 points, 11 more than 8th-place Concordia. Click here to view the complete preseason WHAC Men's Soccer poll.
